Toll-Free Verification

As a reminder, beginning October 1, 2022, verification is required for all TFNs when sending traffic to Canada. Unverified traffic destined for Canadian TNs will be blocked – the new limits only apply to traffic destined for U.S. telephone numbers (TNs). Once a TFN is in a pending state, these blocks no longer apply.

Effective April 1, 2023, in addition to updating the verification requirements, the toll-free industry is also implementing new limits to messaging traffic for restricted and pending TFNs.

The industry’s toll-free aggregator has updated the required information for verifying a toll-free number, in addition to implementing new traffic limits for restricted and pending toll-free numbers.

Historically, PinPoint Scheduling could provide our own information as the business contact. However, the aggregator now requires the information of the end user of the toll-free number to be provided.

What is toll-free verification?

The toll-free verification process qualifies the messaging traffic to be tagged as verified with our downstream peers (not directly with mobile operators). The approved tag reduces the number of false-positive blocks and helps increase the message deliverability on a single TFN.

Verification is not whitelisting, so approval doesn’t guarantee that the customer won’t experience any blocking. However, as long as the sent traffic aligns with the verification application, this allows us to work with our peers more swiftly in order to share the campaign details with the mobile operator and ask for the blocking to be removed.

What do I need to know?

The toll-free submission form fields that now require the end user's information are as follows:

  • Business Contact: Name
  • Business Contact: Email
  • Business Contact: Phone
  • Message Sender: Legal Company Name
  • Message Sender: URL/Website
  • Message Sender Primary Company Address or Corporate Headquarters

Toll-free verification timelines

Upon submission, it can take up to 3-4 weeks to receive the final result of a request. As long as we have a status of Pending, your SMS traffic should be untouched.
